Provide risk management for DEO, in support of the integrated programme plan. Establish and improve risk management standards and capabilities across the DEO community. Provide assurance that sub-programmes are logging their risks; ensure that risks are being effectively managed and updated. Promulgate good risk management practices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consolidate risks at the DEO programme level that originate within DEO sub-programmes and ensure that these are logged, owned and managed by the relevant sub-programme managers

  • Coordinate the mitigation of programme-level risks. Design, lead and manage the mitigation process, helping others to mitigate risks as they arise

  • Work closely with DEO colleagues to develop and maintain the DEO programme level Risk Log

  • Take a DEO programme level view of risk management activities with the aim of embedding effective management disciplines across the programme

  • Ensure that all external programme participants (including supply chain partners and local authority planners) are engaged effectively with programme level risk management

  • Coordinate regular risk workshops with sub-programme teams to review / challenge the current risks, and the mitigation actions being taken

  • Ensure the sub-programme teams provide regular risk updates.

  • Compile management reports, including associated metrics and added-value narratives, interpretations and recommendations, to support Board meetings and senior management reviews.

  • Plan, design, implement and embed effective risk management across DEO;

  • Ensure that all programme staff receive an appropriate orientation to the DEO risk management guidelines.

  • Provide education, guidance, advice and coaching on risk management to DEO colleagues

  • Ensure a best practice Risk Management framework and process is rolled out and fully embedded on all sub-programmes; resolve or escalate poor risk management as appropriate.

Key Deliverables

  • DEO programme-level Risk Log

  • Notes from review meetings and workshops, and notes evidencing follow-up to completion

  • Action plans covering issues relating to risk management

  • Consolidated updates from the sub-programmes

  • Management reports, including narratives and associated metrics

  • Risk management standards and best practices document

  • Induction and training materials

  • Knowledge and skills transfer log.

Desirable Experience / Qualifications

  • Managing Successful Programmes Practitioner

  • Prince 2 or APM Practitioner

  • Advanced user of the Microsoft Office Suite of Tools

  • Proven experience of risk management.
